Safety is value.

It is not an objective nor a priority. Safety must remain constant and become integrated into the culture of the organization.

Controlling loss requires knowledge and an intelligent effort

You cannot achieve control by chance. Time, effort, resources, and lives are wasted because or a lack on knowledge in this critical area. Without being armed with the correct information and skills, essential systems are not created or managed properly leading to harm to people and a loss of resources.

The control of loss is the most vital part of management

Loss is another word for waste and waste has a direct impact on the profit and success of a company. A company with a profit margin or 10% must deliver $1000 worth of product or service for a $100 of waste.

Zero must become an expectation.

Operating without accidental loss to people, products, processes, and the environment must become an expectation and not an objective, goal, or vision.

Leaders and Managers hold the key.

As Dr. Edwards clearly stated we cannot expect the willing worker to change the system. That is the role of leaders. The willing workers play a key part in the system, but still cannot significantly change the world in which they work.

The Safety System is a set of linked processes all focused on loss control.

Loss control can only be achieved through a comprehensive system that is designed to address the hazards and control risk in the organization.

Safety is achieved though the anticipation, recognition, and control of hazards to an acceptable level of risk.
